Nicole crowned "America's Next Top Model"

Tonight was the season finale of "America's Next Top Model."

The final two were Laura and Nicole, as chosen last week. Both models had to shoot photos for Covergirl and make a commercial together. Laura was nervous about the commercial because she is dyslexic, but seemed to do fairly well. Coach Jay Manuel told Nicole she seemed snobbish in her commercial. The judges were surprised with Laura's performance in the commercial because they could understand her even through her thick southern dialect. However, they didn't seem fond of Nicole's because she, "Threw her model out the door," according to host Tyra Banks.

The models also had to participate in a fashion show. Some contestants who had previously been sent home participated in the show as well. The fashion show was about "elements" and the models had to walk down the runway in such things as wind and water.

In the end, the judges seemed to like things about each model, but Nicole was declared the winner. She is the first petite model to ever win "ANTM."
"Rad and Bad Reality" believes a winner being declared on "America's Next Top Model" is very important in the world of reality TV. Many shows are having their season finales right now as well, but not every show has a "winner," so when they are competitions, it is interesting and anticipatory among many viewers. Winners of shows have a strong impact in the reality television and many people who win competitions such as this go one to have wonderful careers that they otherwise would not have had. Nicole is joining many other models who have won the competition and "Rad and Bad Reality" believes she will now be a very important figure in the modeling world, which is why a blog post about this is so incredibly important.

A topic like this reflects the traditional news values of audience and timeliness. A blog post like this is very important to audiences of that particular reality show and possibly even people who did not watch this season, but wanted to know the winner and would enjoy reading a recap of the last episode, where the winner was chosen. This blog post was posted as soon as possible following the episode, which reflects timeliness. It is important to not be late when breaking the news about something as important as a winner. While it would be wonderful to get it posted immediately, it is hard because it still has to be written. "Rad and Bad Reality" did send out a tweet just two seconds after Nicole was crowned the winner, though. (By the way, following "Rad and Bad Reality" on Twitter can solve the problem of a delay in quick updates.)

Congratulations, Nicole!
